A series of teachers’ orientation programmes on Integral Education, inspired by the educational philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, was conducted in North Bengal between 6th and 9th June 2025. These programmes aimed to bring a deeper awareness of the principles of Integral Education and explore ways of integrating them meaningfully into the school curriculum.
The first orientation programme was held on 6th June 2025 at Studyzone School, Talma, in the district of Jalpaiguri. Teachers from 3 neighbouring schools actively participated in this session. The programme introduced the fundamentals of Integral Education, emphasizing the fivefold development—physical, vital, mental, psychic, and spiritual—and its relevance in today’s educational context. The second leg of the journey took place over two days, 7th and 8th June 2025, in the hall of the Sri Aurobindo Society, Siliguri, with their collaboration, where a two-day workshop was conducted with teachers from 6 schools who are already part of a continuous, year-round engagement. These schools are gradually incorporating the concepts of Integral Education into their day-to-day practices. The workshop focused on deeper reflection, classroom-level implementation, and school-wide integration of these ideas. Discussions, group work, and presentations from participant schools formed the core of this interactive workshop.
The final programme in this series was a large-scale orientation held on 9th June 2025 at Mathabhanga in the district of Cooch Behar. This event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 185 teachers and principals from 40 schools of the district. The session offered an introductory yet impactful glimpse into the integral approach to education and invited schools to consider a more holistic, student-centred, and value-based approach to learning and teaching.
These orientation programmes were conducted by the team from Mirraloke, an autonomous unit under the Sri Aurobindo Sikshadhara Trust, and were organised and coordinated by Rupantor Group, another autonomous unit of the same Trust. Special mention must be made of Shri Kabyick Ganguly, Principal of Sishu Malancha School, Siliguri, who actively co-organised the events. The response across all venues was positive.
